Christopher Nolan has consistently delivered on his mission to change the filmic experience, challenge our perceptions of ourselves and time, and how we think in general. With Memento, he twisted time upon itself. With his reboot of the Batman series (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, so far), he challenged us to consider the burden and cost of heroism in a depraved world. With Inception, he has created a heart-pumping journey into dream-sharing, challenging our very conception of reality, the power of our subconscious minds and the (at this point) theoretical ethical questions around those who endeavor to explore and control this cerebral realm upon which we base our entire world construct, sense of self and relationships.
This film is truly a visual and psychological journey, so a description will not do it much justice. However, it is worth noting that Nolan has constructed a superb screenplay, evoked nearly perfect performances from the outstanding cast, and has created a strikingly beautiful CGI world whose fantastic nature is immersive, rather than distracting. It includes seat-gripping action and espionage, a stirring and unique love story, and humor when the viewer least expects it.
So, basically, go see this film. As soon as possible. At least once. I plan on going to see it again, this time on IMAX, as the visual effects and scale of the experience certainly warrant it. I've included some links and goodies below to explore the film a bit more.
